Located in Reguengos de Monsaraz, in the Alentejo region, this archaeological site dates back to the Iron Age, witnessing the ancient occupation of the region. It stands on a rocky outcrop on the banks of the Degebe River, a tributary of the Guadiana.
The Castelo Velho do Degebe is an ancient settlement protected by a dry stone wall and a natural escarpment, indicating its defensive importance in antiquity.
Recognized as a Property of Public Interest since 1957, the site is valued for its historical and archaeological significance in the region.
Despite being damaged over the years, evidence such as ditches, walls and residential structures remain visible, with elements such as lithic utensils, ceramics and bronze artifacts discovered during excavations standing out.
