The Main Church of Redondo is located in Bairro António Festas, in a central area of the town that allows easy access for visitors. Its position within Redondo's urban fabric provides a setting that highlights the building's imposing presence and historical importance in the town.
This temple in Redondo has a long history, whose origins are lost in time. As early as 1380, a primitive building existed on the site. The construction of the church visible today began in 1572 and was completed in 1587, replacing the then Gothic church. In the 18th century, the building underwent restoration work, which gave it part of its current appearance.
The Main Church of Redondo features lines that fit a popular Baroque style. Inside, the nave has a rectangular plan, a characteristic that defines the temple's main space. The ceiling, in the shape of a round vault, contributes to the spaciousness and welcoming feel of the environment, drawing the visitor's gaze towards the artistic ensemble within.
Upon entering the church's interior, a collection of gilded woodwork altarpieces stands out, typical of the Baroque style. On the side walls, there are six chapels, three on each side, whose entrances are marked by marble semicircular arches. These chapels contain valuable statuary elements that enrich the temple's heritage. Also notable is the presence of 18th-century tiles, which decorate certain areas with representations of the mysteries of Christ and Our Lady. The main altar, a central element, is dedicated to the patron saint, Our Lady of the Annunciation.
