Situated in the municipality of Mora, in the locality of Cabeção, the Gameiro River Beach is integrated into the Gameiro Ecological Park. This space is located next to the Raia River, in an area of natural and tranquil landscape, away from denser urban zones. Its position within the park offers easy access to other facilities within the same environment.
One of the main attractions of the Gameiro Ecological Park is its bathing area, the River Beach. This area was designed to provide moments of leisure in the water, with the addition of sand to create a more traditional beach environment. The water quality of the Raia River is regularly checked and typically presents pleasant temperatures during the warm months. It is a place known for its tranquility and shallow waters over a good expanse, making it suitable for safe enjoyment.
The natural surroundings of Gameiro River Beach invite observation and relaxation. The banks of the Raia River are lined with characteristic vegetation, such as poplars and willows, creating natural shaded areas. It is an environment conducive to spotting some riparian fauna and, in particular, to hearing the sounds of nature, from the murmur of the water to the singing of birds like the great tit or the jay, contributing to an atmosphere of great serenity.
From the beach area, or in its immediate vicinity within the Ecological Park, there are paths that allow exploration of the riparian landscape. Noteworthy is the wooden walkway that accompanies the Raia River for about 1.5 kilometers, offering tranquil views of the waterway and the surrounding vegetation. There are also longer dirt trails that venture through cork oak forests. These paths are equipped with resting points and information about the local flora.
The existence of Gameiro River Beach is directly linked to the Gameiro Weir, a structure on the Raia River that allowed the formation of this calmer body of water for bathing. The presence of the weir generates a constant and characteristic sound of falling water, which can be heard near the beach and adds a particular auditory element to the landscape.
