Azenhas D'el Rei River Beach is located on the banks of the large Alqueva Dam, integrating a recreation and leisure area designed for visitors' enjoyment.
It is located in the parish of Capelins, belonging to the Alentejo municipality of Alandroal. Its location offers a serene setting, marked by the typical natural landscape of the Guadiana River region and the vastness of what is known as Europe's largest artificial lake.
This river beach represents a recent development in the region's leisure offerings. Its construction was completed and the space opened to the public in June 2022.
This project marked the creation of the first river beach in the municipality of Alandroal, integrating into a network of recreation areas planned for the banks of Alqueva in the region.
Azenhas D'el Rei River Beach is recognized for its quality, having received the Blue Flag and Accessible Beach awards since its opening. These distinctions are awarded to spaces that meet rigorous criteria for environmental quality, safety, and management, and have been renewed, attesting to the maintenance of standards over time.
The Blue Flag award focuses on environmental education and sustainable beach management. The Accessible Beach distinction recognizes the conditions created to ensure that people with reduced mobility can use the space autonomously and safely, through adapted infrastructure and pathways.
The area designated for swimming and relaxing by the water includes a sandy area and a grassy area. For greater comfort during hot days, there are awning structures that provide shade. Facilities include toilets and showers available for users.
The beach also stands out for its accessibility. Adapted pedestrian paths have been created from the parking area to the bathing area, including ramps that facilitate access to the water for people with reduced mobility.
