The old bridge of São Brás do Regedouro is located in a rural and peaceful environment, in the locality of the same name, within the municipality of Évora. Its position is unique, rising over the Ribeira de Peramanca, precisely where it receives the waters of the Ribeiras de Valverde and São Brissos. This confluence of watercourses lends the place a serene natural setting, inviting moments of quietude and observation.
This bridge is a remarkable example of medieval engineering, with its construction conjecturally dated to the 14th century. Erected to serve as a fundamental crossing point in the road network of the time, it connected communities and facilitated transit and trade. Today, its primary function of transport has given way to that of a valuable historical-cultural landmark, being recognized as a Monument of Public Interest.
Upon observing the bridge, one can admire its robust design, characteristic of medieval constructions. Its deck, or walkway, still preserves vestiges of the original pavement once trodden by travelers and merchants. The structure is supported by two perfectly rounded arches, a common construction technique in the Middle Ages, which lends it durability and beauty. In the center, beneath the arches, a robust cutwater stands out, designed to break the water current and protect the pillars from erosion, a detail that illustrates the skill of the builders of the time.
