The Misericórdia Church is located in Pavia, a locality that is part of the municipality of Mora. It is situated in Largo Manuel José Casimiro, positioned within the historic core of the village. Its central location allows for easy integration into the village environment, offering a perspective of its importance in the urban fabric.
Although the institution of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Pavia was established in 1563, the Church building, as we know it today, began construction in the 17th century. Its patron is the Nobleman Álvaro Souto Maior. Over the years, the church underwent several remodelling works. However, the facade retains its distinctive Mannerist character, while inside, architectural elements blend, exhibiting Baroque and Neoclassical influences.
Inside the temple, one of the most prominent features is the nave's ceiling, characterized by its coffered vault, a remarkable example of the Baroque style. Despite the various decorative interventions that occurred at different times, the interior space presents significant visual coherence, especially visible in its altarpieces. Additionally, a collection of Misericórdia banners, sacred art pieces dating back to the 18th century, can be appreciated, enriching the Church's heritage.
