The Manuel Ribeiro de Pavia House Museum is located in the heart of the small village of Pavia, in the municipality of Mora. Its central position in the village makes it easily identifiable. It is situated right next to the Anta-Capela de São Dinis (São Dinis Dolmen-Chapel), another local landmark, naturally integrating into the Alentejo village environment.
This museum is entirely dedicated to the life and work of Manuel Ribeiro de Pavia, an artist deeply connected to his birthplace. Recognized as an important representative of Portuguese Neo-Realism, he particularly excelled in the field of illustration. His work as a cover artist for contemporary writers, including notable figures of Neo-Realism, solidified his reputation.
Inside the House Museum, visitors have the opportunity to appreciate a diverse selection of Manuel Ribeiro de Pavia's work. Paintings, original drawings, and reproductions of some of his best-known works are on display. Visitors can also see books containing his illustrations. The collection reflects his style and the themes he frequently addressed, many of them inspired by the Alentejo region and the lives of its people, such as rural labor and motherhood.
The primary goal behind the creation of the House Museum was to preserve and disseminate Manuel Ribeiro de Pavia's artistic legacy in his homeland. Opened to the public in 1984, it is the result of a collaboration to keep alive the collection of this Alentejo artist and promote awareness of his contribution to Portuguese art, especially in the field of drawing and Neo-Realist illustration.
