The Gameiro boardwalk is located in Cabeção, a locality in the municipality of Mora, in the Alentejo region. This path is set within an area of particular natural interest, following the banks of the Raia Stream. The starting point for the boardwalk is located in the vicinity of the area's former river beach, a setting that offers a smooth transition to its natural surroundings.

The Wooden Path

Approximately 1.5 kilometers long, the Gameiro boardwalk is primarily built of wood, offering a flat and inviting surface for a peaceful walk. Its design is remarkably accessible, allowing visitors of all ages, including families with small children, the elderly, or people in wheelchairs, to enjoy the stroll without difficulty. Along the route, there are rest benches, ideal for a break and to appreciate the serenity of the location. The return journey follows the same path, totaling approximately 3 kilometers.

Natural Environment and Observation

Walking the Gameiro boardwalk is immersing oneself in an environment of biodiversity. Following the Raia Stream, the trail allows for the observation of the riparian flora, notably willows and poplars. Further along, the landscape transforms, revealing the typical physiognomy of the Alentejo cork oak woodland, where cork oaks dominate. Visitors can find informative signs about the local fauna and flora. With some attention, it is possible to spot birds like the great tit and the jay, whose songs fill the air, and also glimpse amphibians, small fish on the banks of the stream, or even mammals moving in the area. A strategic observation post offers a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape.

The route offers an immersive experience in the Alentejo landscape, characterized by its openness and luminosity. Although the first part by the river is shadier, the greater length of the boardwalk and the subsequent paths reveal an open scenery, with a predominance of deciduous trees and, as one proceeds, the majestic cork oaks. This serene environment provides genuine contact with the region's nature, inviting contemplation and a slower pace, ideal for those seeking tranquility and the natural beauty of the Alentejo.
