Malagueira Park is located in the urban area of Malagueira, in Évora. Its location is unique, serving as a meeting and transition point between modern urban development and the natural landscape characteristic of the Alentejo region. This green space is an integral part of an urbanisation project designed to harmonise with Évora's historical and rural context.
This park represents a significant project in the field of architecture and landscaping, conceived by names such as the renowned architect Álvaro Siza and the landscape architect João Gomes da Silva. Its creation is part of a broader plan for the Malagueira neighbourhood, seeking to establish a fluid connection between the built environment and natural systems, such as existing watercourses and the old agricultural structure of Quinta da Malagueira, reflecting an approach that values the genius loci.
With an area of approximately 13 hectares, Malagueira Park offers ample open spaces that invite the enjoyment of nature. The project included a careful restoration of the terrain's topography, promoting ecological regeneration and efficient water resource management, visible in an artificial lake and a stream that meanders through the park. It also features an amphitheatre with a stage and vast grassy areas, many of which are shaded, ideal for relaxation. The use of traditional regional materials, such as granite, marble, and adobe, underscores its cultural and aesthetic integration with the Alentejo.
Malagueira Park provides an environment that balances the tranquility of nature with urban living. This is a place where contemporary design merges with respect for heritage and the natural environment, creating an inviting public space. Its size and diverse settings make it suitable for various forms of outdoor recreation, offering a perspective on how human intervention can enrich a landscape, in dialogue with the historical profile of Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage city.
