Olaria das Brotas is located in the eponymous village of Brotas, a tranquil place within the municipality of Mora. This peaceful village, with its serene atmosphere, blends naturally into the Alentejo landscape, offering a calm environment for visitors seeking an experience connected to local traditions.
This space represents the continuity of pottery art that has spanned centuries in the region. The village of Brotas was once a vibrant center for ceramic production, even housing a significant number of potters, around forty. Olaria das Brotas keeps this long tradition alive, serving as a link between the locality's artisanal past and the present, through the preservation of techniques and knowledge.
The space has adapted to modern times, inviting visitors to experience direct contact with the art of clay. It is possible to observe the potter at work on the wheel, shaping forms from the clay. There is also the opportunity, for example, to participate in the creation of pieces or their decoration. The guided tour deepens knowledge about this craft and its ancestral and contemporary techniques.
The production of Olaria das Brotas stands out for its clay pieces, which include both utilitarian items and decorative elements. These creations are often hand-decorated, demonstrating artisanal care in every detail. The potter José Carlos Lourenço Ramalhão is responsible for conceiving these pieces, which carry a piece of the cultural identity and beauty of the Alentejo, and can be acquired on-site or by order.
