Located in Cumeada, the official Dark Sky® Alqueva Observatory offers a unique solar and astronomical observation experience. Equipped with state-of-the-art telescopes, it provides fascinating views ranging from planets to the depths of the starry sky, including nebulae, galaxies, and star clusters.

In addition to astronomical observation, the site offers a variety of activities that combine the fascination with the cosmos with sensory and gastronomic experiences. From relaxing at sunset with a cocktail to wine tasting under the stars, there are options for all tastes.

Schedule and Reservations

Night and solar observation activities are held from Tuesday to Saturday, by appointment only. Night observation sessions explore constellations, nebulae, planets, and more, while solar observation sessions offer a safe and detailed view of the Sun.

Prices and Schedules

Session prices vary according to age and time of year. Night sessions have variable schedules, generally starting about an hour after sunset, while solar sessions occur daily from Tuesday to Saturday.

History and Exhibitions

The Dark Sky® Alqueva headquarters are housed in a historic building, formerly a primary school, which has been renovated to house the observatory. Visitors can enjoy a permanent astrophotography exhibition, as well as explore a growing mini-museum, which includes everything from meteorites to space memorabilia.

Customized Activities

The Observatory also offers customized activities for hotels and private or corporate events. From solar to night observations, with portable telescopes guided by specialized astronomers, it is possible to include a unique stargazing experience in any event.
