Anta da Valeira 2 is located on the Abaneja Estate, near the village of Nossa Senhora da Graça do Divor, in the municipality of Évora. It is immersed in a predominantly agricultural landscape, a setting that provides a calm environment and allows direct contact with the vastness and tranquility typical of the Alentejo. Its presence in this rural context underscores the profound connection between these ancient structures and the land that has hosted them for millennia.
This monument is a dolmen, an ancient funerary chamber dating back to the Chalcolithic period. It represents an important testimony to the funerary practices and beliefs of the prehistoric communities that inhabited this region. Its existence offers a window into understanding the social complexity and technical ingenuity of our ancestors, who erected these imposing structures for ritual and burial purposes.
At Anta da Valeira 2, five large stones are still visible, which once served as the main pillars of the chamber. These rocks, of considerable dimensions, reveal the scale of megalithic constructions. Despite having been affected by the action of time and the agricultural activity surrounding it, the dolmen remains a mark of history, allowing visitors to imagine its original grandeur and the life that surrounded it thousands of years ago.
