The Neolithic site is located in the area of Mosqueiro, an area that is part of the village of Foros de Vale de Figueira, in the municipality of Montemor-o-Novo. Nestled in the heart of Alentejo, this place benefits from a rural and serene environment, characteristic of the region's vast and tranquil landscape. Its location offers direct contact with nature and the Alentejo countryside.
This site offers a unique perspective on the Early Neolithic, transporting visitors on a journey back in time approximately seven thousand years. It is an opportunity to understand how the first human communities that settled in Alentejo lived, during a crucial period in history when the transition from nomadic life to sedentarization and the beginning of agricultural practices occurred.
In the Neolithic Village, it is possible to observe the essential elements that made up the daily life of these ancestral communities. For example, there are replicas of two huts that recreate the primitive dwellings. Furthermore, the site displays various artifacts that illustrate the tools and utensils used at the time. A particular highlight is the presence of a garden, which demonstrates early agricultural practices, and an ingenious prehistoric "refrigerator," designed for storing food like acorns, reflecting the inventiveness and subsistence strategies of these ancient peoples.
