The Aldeia da Luz Walkways are located in the Herdade dos Pássaros Estate area, an integral part of the village of Luz, in the municipality of Mourão. This route extends along the shores of the vast Great Lake Alqueva, offering a unique perspective on the imposing reservoir and the surrounding Alentejo landscape.
With an extension of about 700 meters, these walkways were designed to connect Aldeia da Luz to a mooring area. Along their course, the wooden structure extends over the water's surface, crossing arms of the lake, while at other points it allows visitors to approach the land edge of the reservoir.
The interaction of the walkways with the aquatic environment is dynamic and can vary. At certain times, with the reservoir at higher levels, some sections of the structure may be submerged by water, creating a transitional experience between land and water. The different uses of water throughout the year also contribute to the alteration of the visible landscape along the route.
From the Aldeia da Luz Walkways, the view that unfolds before the observer is remarkably wide, dominated by the blue immensity of the Great Lake Alqueva. The horizon is vast, and the water's surface stretches extensively, contouring the lands that embrace it. It is possible to glimpse, in the distance, the cluster of buildings of Aldeia da Luz, where the bell tower of its church stands out in the panorama.
This place gains a particularly enchanting atmosphere in the late afternoons. The sunset, painting the sky and the surface of the Great Lake with a palette of vibrant colors, transforms the Aldeia da Luz Walkways into an especially scenic setting. It is an ideal moment for photography, inviting a peaceful stroll and the contemplation of the serenity that extends across the entire Alentejo landscape.
