The bust of Dinis Fernandes Miranda is located in Montoito, a locality in the municipality of Redondo. The piece is placed in Praça Dinis Fernandes Miranda, in the heart of the village's historic center.
This central location allows visitors to easily find the monument while exploring Montoito's oldest streets, integrating into the locality's traditional atmosphere.
This sculpture is a tribute to Dinis Fernandes Miranda, a native of Montoito, born on April 21, 1929, and passed away in February 1991. The bust celebrates his life dedicated to the cause of workers, freedom, and democracy, reflecting his impact on local and national history.
The presence of this monument marks the recognition of his journey, marked by twelve years of imprisonment during the fascist period, from which he was only released after April 25. The bust thus serves as a symbol of resistance and the achievement of freedom.
Dinis Fernandes Miranda began his professional life very young in the countryside, closely experiencing the difficulties of harvesting, olive picking, and farming, in sun-up to sun-down shifts. This formative experience shaped his commitment to social justice.
His trajectory led him to move to Porto in 1957, but he always maintained a strong connection to his origins. His journey is also notable for his role as an active militant and, later, as a member of the Political Commission of a political party and president of the Municipal Assembly of Redondo, attesting to his influence on the country's political and social life.
