The Vista Má Water Mill is located in the peaceful Riverside Zone of the village of Cabeção, belonging to the municipality of Mora. It is situated on the north bank of a stream, nestled in a serene natural landscape that represents a meeting point between the characteristics of Alentejo and Ribatejo. Its proximity to water and dense vegetation gives it a picturesque appearance and a deep integration into the environment.
This water mill, also known as Moinho da Má Vista or Moinho da Maria Vinagre, is a symbol of the traditional milling systems that were once essential in the region. Its construction is estimated to be between the 18th and 19th centuries. It operates as a horizontal wheel mill, a common typology that harnessed the force of the water current to grind cereals. The mill's relevance in its time is attested by its presence in old Military Charts.
Currently, the Vista Má Water Mill is in a state of ruin, with its main structure partially submerged and significantly covered by surrounding vegetation. Although its internal mechanisms are no longer present, the robust stone walls and the remains of adjacent dependencies allow one to imagine the life and work that took place there. The way nature has embraced and enveloped the mill offers a tranquil setting, inviting contemplation of the fusion between past human architecture and the persistent force of the natural Alentejo environment.
