, Origin: The original church, dedicated to Santa Maria, was founded in 1260 inside the Castle of Borba and handed over to the Military Order of Avis.
, Relocation and Reconstruction: In 1420, D. Fernão Rodrigues de Sequeira ordered the construction of the church on its current site after the appearance of an image of the Virgin Mary in an oak forest. In 1560, Cardinal D. Henrique ordered the reconstruction of the church, following the style of the Church of Santo Antão in Évora.
, Chapels: It has ten chapels, each belonging to different brotherhoods, with artistic contributions from the 17th and 18th centuries.
, Chapel of Souls: Notable for its rich ornamentation, with three marble altars and paintings by José de Sousa de Carvalho.
, Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament: Belonged to the main brotherhood of Borba, accessible only to the nobility. Decorated with tiles from the Royal Fábrica do Rato and a painting by José de Sousa de Carvalho.
