It is located in the locality of Lavre, in the municipality of Montemor-o-Novo, Alentejo.
12th-century bridge, also known as Ponte Cava, in an isolated and quiet area, surrounded by nature.
Only parts of the original bridge remain, including a broken arch and large stones in the streambed. It is a picturesque and hidden spot, surrounded by branches and vegetation.
The trail connecting the village of Lavre to the bridge follows the stream, measuring approximately 3 km. The path is narrow, with steep descents and sections of dense vegetation. There is also an easier alternative route.
The trail maintains its natural environment, without boardwalks or modern constructions. In autumn, the path is romantic with falling leaves, and in spring, it is lush with blooming vegetation.
The route was traversed by José Saramago and is part of the itinerary inspired by his work Levantado do Chão. The author lived in Lavre in 1976, collecting local stories and memories.
The route was officially opened in May 2021 and also includes an Audio Walk Tour that evokes Saramago's work and related locations.
Ideal for those who enjoy nature walks, historical sites, and literary inspiration. It is recommended to avoid wearing shorts due to thorny branches on the path.
