Located in the rural area of Cortiçadas de Lavre and Lavre, Monte Selvagem Animal Reserve is near the town of Lavre, in the municipality of Montemor-o-Novo.

Its location allows for integration into a natural environment typical of the Alentejo landscape, providing a calm and spacious setting, characteristic of this region in the district of Évora.

A Vast Natural Space

Monte Selvagem Animal Reserve occupies an extensive area of approximately 20 hectares. This dimension allows the space to develop as more than just a place for animal observation.

It integrates the functions of a biodiversity reserve with areas designed for leisure and educational activities, providing a diverse experience in contact with nature.

The Reserve's Inhabitants

The reserve hosts a remarkable variety of animal life, with over 60 different species. In total, approximately 350 animals reside in the park.

A central aspect of Monte Selvagem's management is the origin of its inhabitants: none of the animals present were removed from their natural habitat, reflecting a commitment to ethics and sustainability in the management of captive wildlife.

Purpose: Conservation and Education

The creation of Monte Selvagem was based on a deep respect for the environment and animal life. It functions as a space dedicated to biodiversity protection and the provision of alternative habitats for animals in need.

Furthermore, the park plays an active role in promoting people's contact with nature and raising awareness about the importance of its protection and conservation. Through an educational project and the sustainable management of the space itself, it aims to educate visitors about environmental sustainability practices.
