This monument is located in Santo André, one of Estremoz's urban areas. It stands in an accessible public space, integrating into the daily life of the locality. Its presence in the heart of this Alentejo town allows direct contact with its history and environment.
Dedicated to those who offered their lives for the Nation, this monument serves as a perpetual reminder. Its inauguration took place in September 1941, becoming a point of reference and homage in Estremoz ever since. The idea for its construction arose many years earlier, in 1933, denoting the relevance and solemn purpose attributed to it from its genesis.
The realization of this work is due to the collaboration of distinguished talents. The original architectural project was conceived by C. José Coutinho. Subsequently, the sculptural component, which gives form to the monument, was authored by José Maria de Sá Lemos. This joint creation resulted in a piece that, in addition to expressing a profound tribute, enriches the artistic and cultural heritage of Estremoz's public space.
