The Hermitage of Santo Amador is located in the municipality of Reguengos de Monsaraz, in the area of Campo e Campinho, in a zone known as Monte dos Albardeiros. Dating from the 18th century, the Hermitage of Santo Amador is a characteristic example of rural religious architecture in Alentejo. Its simplicity is one of its distinctive features, revealing a harmoniously articulated longitudinal plan. The walls, plastered and whitewashed, are highlighted by bands of traditional colors, giving it an appealing aesthetic deeply rooted in the region. The main facade, facing southwest, features an asymmetrical porch supported by arches, while the gabled roof tops the structure with typical sobriety.
Inside, the hermitage reveals a single rectangular nave, with a barrel vault ceiling creating a welcoming atmosphere. The choir loft, with its wooden balustrade, offers a contrast to the plain elevations. One of the most notable elements is the altarpiece of the main altar, a wooden structure with a triangular pediment, adorned with a painting that reflects Alentejo folk art. This decoration is peculiar, as its motifs resemble those applied to domestic furniture, adding an artistic uniqueness to the sacred space. The masonry pulpit and the irregular flagstone floor complete the authenticity of the ensemble.
