The Mother Church of Our Lady of Conception is located in the village of Cabrela, part of the municipality of Montemor-o-Novo. It occupies a central position, dominating the urban environment of the village.
Its construction on an elevated point offers a wide and encompassing perspective over the surrounding landscape, enhancing its presence and highlighting its importance in the local context.
This architectural complex comprises the church and an annexed conventual building. The church, with its characteristic architecture, was constructed during the 17th century, marking a period of significant religious and constructive activity in the region.
The convent, adjacent to the church, had its construction initiated in the 18th century. Although never fully completed, its presence contributes to the impressiveness of the complex, which developed from an old 16th-century hermitage dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Conceição (Our Lady of Conception).
The church features several details that capture the visitor's attention. On its tower, one can observe the two bells that echoed through the village, as well as a luminous cross that stands out in the building's silhouette, especially at dusk.
A small tile panel, dated 1940, enriches one of the church's facades, depicting the Virgin Mary and adding a decorative and devotional element that complements its main structure.
