Gameiro Ecological Park is located in the town of Cabeção, which belongs to the municipality of Mora. This space was carefully designed along the banks of the Raia Stream, utilizing the area surrounding the Gameiro Weir. Its position is set within the typical Alentejo landscape, characterized by cork oak forests (montados) and wooded areas, offering a serene natural setting.
Originating around the Gameiro Weir, the park harmoniously integrates into the riverside landscape. Here, the water mirror formed by the weir invites contemplation and leisure. A river beach allows visitors to enjoy moments of relaxation by the water, with space for sunbathing and swimming. The calm waters of the stream are suitable for water activities, such as canoeing, which provides a unique perspective of the local fauna and flora.
Gameiro Ecological Park offers various options for those looking to connect with nature. A wooden walkway, approximately 1.5 kilometers long, runs along the banks of the Raia Stream, ideal for peaceful walks and observing the vegetation and animals that inhabit this ecosystem. The park also features a picnic area equipped with tables and benches, perfect for a family picnic. For the younger ones, there is a playground, and for those seeking challenges, a tree-top adventure park provides an adventure among the treetops. Additionally, a sports field offers a space for sports practice.
The ecological vocation of Gameiro Park is reinforced by the presence of an Environmental Interpretation Center (CIAmb). This center is dedicated to informing visitors about the richness of the fluvial and terrestrial ecosystems present in the region, deepening knowledge about local biodiversity. The park, in its entirety, functions as a natural extension of important initiatives for the preservation and study of aquatic life, such as the Mora River Aquarium (Fluviário de Mora), highlighting its commitment to valuing natural heritage.
