The dolmen is located on the Herdade do Zambujal do Conde, parish of Nossa Senhora da Tourega, about 10 km southeast of Évora. It stands on a small hill next to a rural path, surrounded by sparse cork oak woodland and vast views over the Alentejo plain.
Dated to 4000–3000 BC, it was classified as a National Monument in 1910. Three large granite orthostats and scattered blocks remain, outlining the ancient burial chamber; the mound of earth that covered it has disappeared, leaving the structure open to the sky.
The silence of the countryside, punctuated by holm oaks and the scent of rockrose, accentuates the contemplative character of the place. Even fragmented, the dolmen bears witness to the collective effort and symbolic connection of prehistoric communities to the territory, maintaining great relevance for archaeology and for the study of funerary practices of the Alentejo Neolithic.
