Situated in the village of Pavia, municipality of Mora, district of Évora, in the heart of Alentejo.
It is a dolmen (megalithic monument) built between the 4th and 3rd millennia BC. It was used as a collective tomb during the Neolithic period.
In the 17th century, it was adapted into a Christian chapel dedicated to São Dinis (or Saint Denis). This religious reuse followed the example of other dolmen-chapels in the region.
The main chamber is about 4.30 meters in diameter and 3.30 meters in height, with a large capstone (capelo) measuring approximately 3 by 2.60 meters.
It has been classified as a National Monument since 1910, due to its historical and architectural importance.
It was excavated in 1914 by archaeologist Vergílio Correia. The findings and studies were published in the book El Neolítico de Pavia in 1921.
It is a rare example of a prehistoric monument reused as a Christian space, allowing observation of remains from two very different eras in a single location.
