The Acorn Thematic Pavilion is located in the village of Portel, nestled in the heart of Alentejo. This location is situated within a municipality renowned for its typical montado landscape, which shapes the life and culture of the region. The pavilion occupies a building that, in the past, played a central role in the local economy, contributing to its uniqueness within the village's urban landscape.

From Memory to Discovery

Inaugurated in September 2013, the Acorn Thematic Pavilion resulted from the transformation of a former municipal slaughterhouse. This conversion provided Portel with a space dedicated to interpreting its territory. The pavilion offers a perspective on the natural and cultural values of Alentejo, inviting visitors to rediscover ancestral knowledge, memories, and experiences characteristic of this area.

The Montado and the Senses

The main focus of this pavilion is the valorization and promotion of the Montado, an ecosystem of great economic, environmental, and cultural relevance to the region. The space was designed to allow the discovery of the landscape and its resources through the five senses, providing an immersive experience of what the Montado represents. It is an opportunity to understand the natural richness and importance of this Alentejan heritage.

Thematic Trails and Activities

The Acorn Pavilion integrates four distinct thematic areas: the Crafts Room, the Cork Room, the Heritage Room, and the Senses Room. Each offers a particular approach to the elements that define the identity of Portel and the Montado. The space hosts various exhibitions, both permanent and temporary, and promotes activities that invite interaction, such as handicraft demonstrations or workshops that deepen knowledge about local culture. This cultural dynamism aims to enhance practices and knowledge that shape a collective identity, connecting the past to the future of the territory.
