Cabedelo Beach is strategically located on the south bank of the Mondego river estuary, within the municipality of Figueira da Foz. Its position offers a unique and privileged view of the city of Figueira da Foz, the port, and the river mouth, all visible from the opposite bank. Access to the sandy area is provided by wooden boardwalks that extend harmoniously over the adjacent dune system, helping to preserve this delicate coastal and riverine ecosystem.
This beach is distinguished by its inviting, light-coloured sand, which stretches over a considerable area. It is flanked by a natural environment that includes a well-preserved dune system, dotted with low-lying vegetation typical of the estuarine and coastal surroundings. The coexistence of the sandy expanse with these natural formations creates a serene and immersive landscape, ideal for those seeking tranquility and direct contact with nature.
The waters at Cabedelo Beach are generally calmer and more sheltered than those of oceanic beaches, benefiting from the natural protection provided by the jetties that define the Mondego river mouth, as well as its location within the estuary. These conditions make it suitable for swimming and various water activities. Thanks to its quality, the beach has been recognized with awards, such as the Gold Quality award, granted in 2024, attesting to the excellence of its waters.
Despite its sheltered nature, the beach offers, under certain tide and wind conditions, opportunities for water sports such as kitesurfing and windsurfing, taking advantage of the winds that are channelled at the river mouth. Its unique setting provides a different experience from that of the region's oceanic beaches.
