The Pedagogical Farm is located in Papanata, in the locality of Gândaras, within the municipality of Lousã. This space is set within a natural area that invites contact with the environment, providing a tranquil and inviting setting to explore.
This unique place functions as an authentic living museum, dedicated to the safeguarding and exhibition of Portugal's most representative agro-pastoral breeds. Visitors have the opportunity to observe closely a diversity of animals that constitute Portugal's rural heritage. Here one can find autochthonous varieties of cattle, goats, and sheep, such as the famous Serra da Estrela sheep, the Bísaro pig, and various species of birds and small mammals, offering a genuine contact with the country's domestic biodiversity.
In addition to its role in animal conservation, the Pedagogical Farm stands out as a project of profound social value. All daily work involving animal care and management is carried out by people with different types of disabilities or chronic illnesses. This approach gives the Farm an inspiring character, highlighting the importance of inclusion and collaborative work, making the visit an enriching experience that goes beyond mere observation of fauna.
Adjacent to the main area of the Farm, there is also the possibility to observe horses and donkeys up close. These animals, which are an integral part of rural daily life, complement the visit experience, allowing for a more comprehensive appreciation of the species that have historically accompanied work and life in the countryside.
