Portugal dos Pequenitos is located in the Santa Clara area, in Coimbra. It is situated in Largo Rossio de Santa Clara, on the left bank of the Mondego river, opposite the city's historic center.
This location offers a different perspective of Coimbra's urban surroundings, positioning the park in an area with its own identity, distinct from the university hill.
This theme park, a pioneer in Portugal, was conceived as a space with recreational, pedagogical, and tourist aspects. Its creation was due to Professor Bissaya Barreto, with a design by architect Cassiano Branco.
Inaugurated in 1940, the park reflects the historical context of its conception era, presenting aspects of Portuguese culture and heritage, both within the country and in other parts of the world with a connection to Portugal.
The heart of the park is a miniature representation of Portuguese architectural heritage. Walking through its paths, one discovers a recreation of traditional houses from different regions of Portugal, with their characteristic styles and materials.
Replicas of emblematic national monuments are also found, inviting a different perspective due to the reduced scale of the constructions. This particular detail allows visitors, especially the younger ones, to feel like "giants" exploring a country tailored to their size.
A part of the park is dedicated to the Portuguese presence and influence around the world.
