History and Reconstruction

, Reconstructed in 1974/75 under the guidance of the historian Padre Nunes Pereira.

, The current building does not contain original pieces of the primitive pillory.

, Only the shaft of the original pillory was known, the current location of which is unknown.

Architecture and Structure

, Erected on a base of two steps.

, Octagonal base column with spiral shaft, hexagonal capital and also spiral-shaped finial, but in the opposite direction.

, The capital is decorated with balls and ends in a pine cone of leaves.

Historical Significance

, It maintains the memory of the privileges of the 16th century and the administrative reform of the reign of D. Manuel I.

, It received a charter from D. Manuel in 1514, the date to which the original example dates back.

Reconstruction Characteristics

, Main column with helical structure, following a common pattern of pillories from the Manueline era.

, Above the main column, a second smaller column rises with a helix inverted in relation to the lower one.
