The Dr. António Simões Saraiva Municipal Museum is located in the town of Bobadela, which is part of the municipality of Oliveira do Hospital. It is situated in a historic building in the center of this locality, in an area that invites exploration of the region's heritage.
This museum is housed in an emblematic building known as Casa dos Godinhos (House of the Godinhos). It is an old manor house dating back to the early 19th century, notable for having been the temporary residence of General Gomes Freire de Andrade. Entering this space is, in itself, a step through the history and architecture of the era.
The museum houses a variety of collections spanning different areas, from art to ethnography. It is a place that preserves and displays objects of historical and cultural value, allowing visitors to better understand the heritage of the region and beyond. The collection includes painting, sculpture, engravings, and pieces that portray the local daily life of yesteryear.
Inside the museum, a series of thematic rooms are discovered. There are spaces dedicated to masters of Portuguese sculpture, such as Simões de Almeida and Soares dos Reis, and also to a local sculptor, Zeferino Monteiro. There is also a room that evokes the Portuguese presence in Macau and the reconstruction of the working environment of historical figures linked to the region, such as Brás Garcia de Mascarenhas. The exhibition route also allows visitors to see Roman archaeological finds discovered in Bobadela, testimonies of the ancient occupation of the territory.
An important part of the collection is dedicated to ethnography and the reconstruction of environments. It is possible to observe the recreation of spaces such as an old courthouse and rooms of a traditional house from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, showing costumes, trades, and economic activities of the time. Rooms decorated in the romantic style, pieces of sacred art, and miniature boats further enrich the visitor's experience, offering a look at different aspects of history and culture.
