The Ethnographic Museum of the Grupo Típico de Ançã is located in the oldest area of the village of Ançã, in the municipality of Cantanhede. It is situated in an area that allows visitors to experience the atmosphere of the town's historic streets.
The building that houses the museum is a remarkable residential house, whose construction dates back to the 17th or 18th century. This popular-style construction was carefully restored to house the museum's collection. Outside, characteristic elements of the period can be observed, such as the old apron stonework in Ançã stone and the sash windows. Access to the upper floor is provided by an exterior stone staircase.
Upon visiting this museum, it is possible to get an idea of what daily life was like for the inhabitants of Ançã in the early 20th century. The upper floor of the house recreates domestic environments of yesteryear, allowing visitors to recall or imagine what a typical bedroom and kitchen/living room of that era would have been like.
The ground floor of the museum, which previously might have served as a wine cellar or stable, is now dedicated to exhibition areas. Here you will find a display of the vast collection gathered over the years, which includes farming implements, children's toys, pieces of traditional clothing, and local handicraft items. This space is also used to present temporary thematic exhibitions.
The collection present in the museum is particularly significant because it is the result of donations from the people of Ançã themselves to the Grupo Típico, which oversees the space. These pieces represent a valuable testimony to the material culture and experiences of the community over time.
