The exact date of foundation is unknown, but the church may date back to the 16th century.
The church is dedicated to Saint Martin, bishop, with an image of the saint on its main altar.
Formerly, the church had Saint Verão or Varão as its patron saint, whose image existed until 1721.
The building has a simple structure with a single nave, main chapel, the Rangéis chapel on the Gospel side, baptistery, sacristy, meeting room for the Parish Council (currently a funeral chapel), and upper choir.
It is located in Santo Varão, in the municipality of Montemor-o-Velho.
The Parish Church of Santo Varão is an important religious and cultural landmark for the local community.
