Location and Panoramic View

The Miradouro da Senhora da Estrela is located in the municipality of Soure, in the locality of Covão das Favas. Positioned at one of the highest points in the region, it offers a wide perspective over the Anços Valley, extending across a large part of the municipality of Soure. On days with good visibility, it is possible to see the city of Figueira da Foz in the distance, as well as the vastness of the ocean.

The landscape is marked by imposing limestone rock formations, which create a distinct natural setting and add a geological dimension to the view. From this point, the visitor has a clear notion of the height and magnitude of these outcrops.

Urban Art and Local Identity

This viewpoint has been enriched with an expressive urban art mural. This artistic intervention, by designer Sérgio Marques, combines modern graphics with elements that evoke the history and culture of the municipality of Soure. The mural integrates into the landscape, offering an additional element of interest and a visual interpretation of the local heritage.

The art present at the site invites close observation, revealing details that reflect the identity of the surrounding area, while also enhancing the visual experience provided by the natural landscape.

Legend and Marian Devotion

The name of the viewpoint and its associated sanctuary are intrinsically linked to an ancient legend of Marian devotion. It is told that a navigator, lost at sea and in great danger, promised to build a chapel to Our Lady if he survived. Suddenly, a star appeared in the sky, guiding him safely to land. In honor of this promise and the miracle, the sanctuary and the viewpoint were dedicated to Senhora da Estrela (Our Lady of the Star).

In the vicinity of the viewpoint, it is possible to observe a statue of Our Lady facing the coast, which may refer to this founding legend. Other representations, such as tile panels, are also found in the area, perpetuating the cult and memory of this story.

The Miradouro da Senhora da Estrela was designed as a place to enjoy serenity and natural beauty. It features several stone benches, inviting visitors to take a break and absorb the tranquility of the environment.
