The Missionary Institute of the Sacred Heart is located in the Montes Claros urbanization, a predominantly residential area in the city of Coimbra. Its location provides a more tranquil environment, being slightly removed from the hustle and bustle of the historic center, yet still integrated into the urban fabric of the locality.
The presence of the Missionary Institute of the Sacred Heart in Coimbra began in the 1950s, when the congregation of the Dehonians sought a place in the city for the formation of its seminarians. After some temporary facilities, which marked the first years of its activity, the Institute found its definitive home in Montes Claros in 1959. This establishment in Coimbra consolidated the congregation's mission, which from early on actively collaborated with the local diocese, providing support in various parishes and chaplaincies over many decades.
With the passage of time and the evolution of the congregation's needs, the Missionary Institute of the Sacred Heart adapted, assuming a new purpose. Since 2010, the space has been transformed to host retreats, training sessions, and events dedicated to Dehonian spirituality, becoming a center for reflection and deepening of faith. In addition to this welcoming vocation, the Institute is also the seat of the Parish of Our Lady of Lourdes, remaining a point of reference for the local community and a testament to its enduring religious and social vocation in the city.
