The Church of St. Anthony is located in the area of Foz de Arouce and Casal de Ermio, one of the zones that make up the municipality of Lousã. It is situated in an environment that combines urban characteristics with the tranquility of the countryside. It is slightly set back from the main nucleus of the locality, to the south, surrounded by agricultural fields and some dispersed dwellings. This position gives it a serene and picturesque setting.
This religious temple has its roots in the 18th century, the period in which it was built. Over the centuries, it has maintained its original function as a parish church, serving the local community. Its presence is a testament to the religious architecture of the era, contributing to the memory and heritage of the region.
The church features a longitudinal plan, characteristic of the religious architecture of the time. It is composed of a main nave, which leads to a chancel, the latter being slightly lower in height and narrower in width compared to the central body. The sacristy and bell tower are adjoined to the left side of the structure, complementing the ensemble. Its main facade, in the shape of a gable, stands out with a straight lintel door, framed by a frieze and a projecting cornice, above which opens a window with a similar style. The materials used in its construction include plastered and painted masonry, with granite stonework details at the base, corners, cornice, and window frames, offering a visual contrast with the painted surfaces.
Particularly noteworthy on the main facade are the two figurative tile panels flanking the upper window. They feature designs in shades of blue on a white background, adding an artistic and decorative element of great interest. The bell tower, with its three registers, is marked by perfect round arch openings housing the bells, and is crowned by a spire that terminates in a cross with trefoil-shaped arms, a detail reflecting the aesthetics of the period. Inside, carved and polychrome wooden altarpieces enrich the space, contributing to the artistic richness of the temple.
