Located in the city of Coimbra, next to Avenida Emídio Navarro and Largo das Ameias, this station is easily accessible and well integrated into the city, close to Baixa de Coimbra. It is also connected to the Linha do Norte and the Ramal da Lousã.
The building, inaugurated in 1931, features a classicizing style, with sober and elegant features. Its facade is marked by great symmetry, standing out for the central body, where there are three access doors to the station, flanked by columns and a large clock.
The building's floor plan is in the shape of a "U", surrounding the railway lines. The main body consists of a single floor with an imposing facade and a glass and iron ceiling, creating a bright environment inside. The passenger platform is covered with metal canopies typical of railway architecture.
Inside, the atrium leading to the station is decorated with historical elements, such as ornamental plaster moldings and the use of geometric motifs on the ceiling. The windows and doors are made of limestone, with elaborate frames.
The building was designed by architects José Ângelo Cottinelli Telmo and Luís Alexandre da Cunha, representing an important example of railway architecture in Portugal in the 20th century. It was classified as a Monument of Public Interest in 2013.
Coimbra's Estação Nova continues to be an important transport hub, connecting the city to various other locations in the country.
The building is open to the public and is a must-see for anyone visiting Coimbra, both for its architectural beauty and its historical and cultural importance.
