The two bandstands stand in Poiares (Santo André), in the locality of Risca Silva, municipality of Vila Nova de Poiares. They are situated at the entrance to the Chapel of Nossa Senhora das Necessidades, flanking the path that leads to the temple and forming a landscaped entranceway.
The ensemble is set on a green terrace, bordered by a low wall and railing, offering views of the surrounding valley and the gentle contour of the hills. Its proximity to the EM541 road facilitates pedestrian access from the center of the parish.
The space functions as a small gathering area, punctuated by deciduous trees that provide shade in the summer and allow sunlight to enter during the colder seasons. Old lamps and scattered benches offer opportunities for restful moments in a calm and well-maintained environment, frequently praised for its cleanliness and serenity.
During the day or at dusk, the lawn surrounding the bandstands invites leisurely strolls, while the symmetrical alignment creates a photographic scene appreciated by both residents and visitors.
Each bandstand features an octagonal base in plastered masonry, painted white with sky-blue panels, a traditional color in Marian iconography. The platform is surrounded by decorative metalwork, allowing for performances by small musical ensembles or choral groups.
The interior path leads directly from the entrance gate to the main door of the chapel, emphasizing its function as a ceremonial antechamber. The mirrored layout creates visual balance and reinforces the sense of welcome to those arriving during festive periods.
The bandstands remain connected to the festivities of Nossa Senhora das Necessidades, with philharmonic performances, processions, and social gatherings that liven up the village in the summer. Throughout the year, they serve as meeting points for weddings, baptisms, and community events, marking photographs and memories for many families in the region.
Even outside of festive dates, the place remains popular with those who simply want to read, contemplate the landscape, or engage in outdoor activities, benefiting from the characteristic tranquility of the Beira region.
