The Sister Lúcia Memorial is located in the city of Coimbra, situated in the urban area of Calhabé. This space is located on Rua Marnoco e Sousa, next to the Carmel of Santa Teresa, the convent where Lúcia de Jesus dos Santos lived in enclosure for a large part of her life. The surrounding area is predominantly residential and calm.
This memorial was created with the aim of offering a more complete vision of the life of Lúcia de Jesus dos Santos, popularly known as Sister Lúcia, one of the seers of the Fátima apparitions. The memorial's focus is especially on her experience as a Carmelite nun in Coimbra. The space seeks to present the course of her life in a clear and accessible way.
During a visit to this memorial, it is possible to observe various objects that belonged to Sister Lúcia or that are linked to important moments in her history. The exhibition includes some of her personal use objects and handcrafted items created by her. Also noteworthy is the simple recreation of her cell, providing a glimpse into her daily life in the convent. The space also displays objects related to the period of the apparitions in Fátima, such as her first rosary and crucifix, as well as gifts offered to her by various Popes with whom she interacted.
The memorial features a collection of photographs illustrating moments throughout Sister Lúcia's life, from childhood to adulthood. Additionally, original handwritten texts are presented, allowing for direct contact with her handwriting and a portion of her extensive correspondence. To enrich the visitor's experience, there is a multimedia room where content related to her life and the context in which she lived is projected.
