District: Coimbra > Oliveira do Hospital > Bobadela
It is located 3 km from the city of Oliveira do Hospital, in the locality of Bobadela.
This monument confirms the human presence in the region during prehistory, between 5,000 and 2,000 BC.
The Anta was discovered in 1966 and has been the target of several archaeological excavations since then.
Among the objects found are arrowheads, flint knives, polished stone axes and ceramic fragments.
Despite some damage caused by pine trees that grew nearby, the mamoa is in a reasonable state of conservation.
In the burial chamber, currently only 5 of the 8 pillars that were visible in the 80s remain.
Since June 1, 1992, it has been classified as a Property of Public Interest.
The name "Pinheiro dos Abraços" (Pine of Embraces) is due to a large pine tree that existed on the site, so large that seven men were needed to embrace it. Currently, there are no traces of this pine tree.
The parish of Bobadela, where the Anta is located, was known by the Romans, between the 1st and 4th centuries AD, as "A Splendidissimae Civitai".
