The Chapel of Our Lady of Necessities is located in the village of Aldeia das Dez, in the municipality of Oliveira do Hospital. It stands in an isolated and imposing manner atop Monte do Colcurinho, an elevation reaching approximately 1230 meters. This privileged position, in the Porto Silvado area, offers visitors a breathtaking view of the vast surrounding landscape, a true natural viewpoint.

A Historical Legacy

The history of the Chapel of Our Lady of Necessities dates back to the late 19th century, with its construction occurring around 1894. This building succeeded a previous chapel, erected in the 18th century, specifically in 1762. Its existence is intimately linked to an ancient local tradition that points to Monte do Colcurinho as the original site of a Marian apparition. Although the image of the Virgin was later transferred to another location in the region, this chapel preserves the memory of the starting point of devotion, having undergone reconstruction in the mid-20th century, around 1950.

Architectural Design

This is a small pilgrimage chapel, notable for its 19th-century inspired architecture. It presents a modest construction, but with elements that confer dignity to the space. One of its distinctive features is the galilé that precedes it, a porch that provides shelter and a transition space before the main entrance. Its structure is simple, resting on load-bearing walls, a common characteristic of the era and the type of religious building to which it belongs.
