Located in Largo Professor João Miranda, the Pillory of Segura dates back to 1510, the time of the granting of the charter to the village by D. Manuel I. It is a historical landmark in the parish of Zebreira and Segura, in the municipality of Idanha-a-Nova, in Portugal.
Designated as a Property of Public Interest since 1933, this pillory stands out for its historical and architectural relevance, representing part of Portuguese heritage.
Presenting Manueline characteristics, the pillory is composed of an octagonal column resting on a quadrangular base of two steps. The capital, adorned with half spheres, and the prismatic finial with heraldic motifs, such as the Cross of Christ and the royal arms, are distinctive elements of its architecture.
In addition to its historical importance, the pillory symbolically represents royal power and municipal autonomy, being a testament to the administrative organization of the country at the time.
