The Chapel of the Holy Spirit is nestled in the tranquil setting of Aldeia do Bispo, a village in the municipality of Penamacor. It is situated in the heart of the settlement, easily accessible by walking through its streets.
Its presence is an integral part of the village's urban fabric, blending with the surrounding houses, mostly built from the robust and characteristic granite of the region.
This small temple carries a history visible in its stones and inscriptions, which suggest different moments of its existence. Elements of its design date back to the 16th and 17th centuries, periods known as 16th-century and Mannerist, indicating that the chapel was built or modified over various eras.
Particularly noteworthy are the two engraved dates that can be observed: one, the oldest, from 1517, located on the bell-gable structure; and another, from 1694, found on the main portal, probably marking a significant intervention or completion at that time.
The chapel features a simple but solid architecture, built predominantly with local granite ashlar. It has a rectangular plan with a single nave, covered by a gable roof.
The main façade, facing west, culminates in a triangular finish (gable). The entrance portal stands out, designed with a perfect round arch. The stones forming the arch (voussoirs) have an interesting detail of a chamfered edge (cut at an angle). The date 1694 is inscribed above this portal. To the right of the façade stands the bell-gable, a simple structure with an arch for the bell, crowned by a cross. It is here that the oldest date, 1517, is engraved.
Attached to one side of the chapel is a lower body corresponding to the sacristy.
