The Sanctuary of Christ the King stands on Alto das Sesmarias, one of the prominent hills that mark the landscape in the Oleiros area. Its elevated position allows the monument to be seen from various points in the town and its surroundings. On site, there is a viewpoint that offers an inviting panoramic view of the town of Oleiros and its surrounding natural environment.
At the heart of the sanctuary stands the statue of Christ the King. This granite sculpture is a work by master Américo Viage Lima. Standing five meters tall and weighing over ten tons, the statue was conceived in the year 2000 with the aim of evoking the monumentality of other Christs, such as those in Almada and Rio de Janeiro, in a unique synthesis for this location.
At the base of the main monument, a chapel was built with a contemporary cube-shaped design, featuring one of its glass facades. This religious space can accommodate approximately thirty people. The interior was decorated with religious paintings of celestial inspiration, creating an atmosphere of contemplation. The construction of this sanctuary aimed to mark a moment of great importance for the community: the entry into the second millennium.
In addition to the monument and the chapel, the Sanctuary of Christ the King in Oleiros offers an inviting surrounding space designed for visitors. It includes a square that invites contemplation and an area equipped for picnics. Access to the site is facilitated by an available parking lot.
