Location

The Unhais da Serra River Beach is integrated into the locality of Unhais da Serra, situated in the municipality of Covilhã. This bathing area is established on the slopes of Serra da Estrela, at an approximate altitude of 650 meters, and is easily accessible from the center of the village. Its position benefits from a natural mountain setting, with views of the mountain foothills, harmoniously fitting into the landscape of the Ribeira de Unhais Valley.

Aquatic Characterization

This area is shaped by the clear waters of the Ribeira de Unhais, which form two main dams, delimiting the bathing zone. These structures allow for distinct swimming areas, where the water remains crystalline and fresh, a characteristic common to mountain watercourses. During the bathing season, the management of the sluice gates helps to create a calmer aquatic surface conducive to swimming, complemented by a small diving board from which one can dive into the river's waters.

Environment and Leisure

The river beach has a vast grassy area, extending for about two hectares, bordered by trees that provide natural shade, inviting rest and leisure. For preparing meals in a rustic setting, visitors will find an area equipped with barbecues. For more active moments, there is a synthetic football pitch that includes basketball hoops. The safety of bathers is ensured by the presence of a lifeguard during operating hours.

Historical Testimonies

Near the beach area, two old, restored mills can be seen. These structures represent a testament to the local tradition of cereal milling, integrating into the landscape and offering a glimpse into the region's rural past. The surroundings also invite short walks, with the possibility of exploring hiking trails that reveal the natural beauty of the surrounding area.
