The Pillory of Castelo Novo is located in the parish of Castelo Novo, in the municipality of Fundão, in the district of Castelo Branco, in Portugal.
This monument was classified as a Property of Public Interest in 1933, recognizing its historical and cultural importance.
Probably built around the same period when the charter was granted to the village in 1510 by King D. Manuel I. It was part of the renovation complex of the castle and the Town Hall.
The Pillory rests on an elevated octagonal base with six steps. Its shaft is divided into two parts: the lower one is octagonal and smooth, while the upper one is fluted and adorned with geometric reliefs and vegetal elements.
The capital is decorated with half spheres and fleurs-de-lis, still maintaining the irons of the gallows, a testament to its history. The top of the monument is octagonal, culminating in a pyramid decorated with trefoil designs.
On the faces of the finishing block, you will find the Cross of Christ and the armillary sphere on two faces, while on the other two the national shield is present.
