The church is located in the center of the town of Orjais, which belongs to the municipality of Covilhã. It is typically situated in the main square of the settlement, a central point in the life of the community.
The history of this temple probably dates back to the 16th century, the period when its original construction would have begun. However, the form we see today largely results from a significant reconstruction that occurred in the 18th century, which gave it its current Baroque characteristics. More recently, in 1992, the building underwent an expansion, which included the addition of a new nave to the original body.
This temple presents predominant characteristics of the Baroque style. Its structure has a longitudinal plan, a common format, and currently features three naves: the two original, staggered naves, and the additional nave built in the 1992 expansion. The interior is divided into four bays or sections. Also noteworthy are the main chapel, which is slightly narrower than the naves, and the attached bodies of the sacristy and the bell tower, which integrate into the church's architectural ensemble.
