A church with a medieval tradition, significantly renovated in the 16th century.
A notable example of Renaissance architecture in the Beira Baixa raiana region.
It presents interesting similarities with other works in Idanha-a-Nova and Monsanto.
The town of Salvaterra do Extremo received a charter from D. Sancho II in 1229, but the church was only documented in the 15th century.
In 1537, a visit recorded the poor condition of the church, especially its artistic works inside.
The church was significantly remodeled in the 16th century, with the construction of a new main facade and a bell tower on the south side.
The main facade features an axial portal with a perfect arch, decorated with pilasters and a small balcony on the second floor.
The church's triumphal arch also dates from this period of renovation.
Devotional elements, such as the main and side altarpieces, were added in the Baroque era, probably in the first half of that period.
