The Main Church of Aldeia do Souto is integrated into the urban fabric of the small locality with the same name, belonging to the municipality of Covilhã. It is located in one of the central areas of the village, easily accessible to those walking through the village streets.
Its position within Aldeia do Souto makes it a point of reference in the local community and in the tranquil setting of this mountain village.
The existence of the Main Church of Aldeia do Souto is documented, at least, since the mid-18th century. Records from the time, such as the Parochial Memories of 1758, already referred to it as an integral part of the village.
The same documents offer a glimpse into its interior during that period, mentioning the presence of three altars: the main altar, dedicated to the Most Holy Sacrament, a side altar on the Gospel side in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary, and another altar on the Epistle side.
Nowadays, the church maintains its original purpose, functioning as the parish church of Aldeia do Souto. It is an active place of worship and of great relevance to the religious and social life of the local community.
The building continues to be the center of religious celebrations and a meeting point for the villagers.
