The Chapel of Our Lady of Grace is situated in the rural area of the same name, a short distance from the center of Idanha-a-Nova. It is located in a place that invites calm and contemplation, framed by the typical landscape of the region. This location, slightly set apart from denser population centers, gives it a serene atmosphere, appropriate for its function.
On the chapel's main facade, the elegant galilee stands out, an open porch supported by a distinct structure. It is composed of two frontal arches resting on a central cylindrical pillar and on pilasters at the ends. On the side walls of the galilee, similar arches can be seen, also supported by pilasters. Above the facade, a simple bell-gable, topped by a cross, rises discreetly.
Inside, the chapel features a longitudinal plan, divided into a main nave and a chancel that is distinguished by being narrower and slightly elevated. A sacristy completes the ensemble. The visitor's gaze is drawn to the gilded carved altarpiece that decorates the chancel, an element illustrating the artistic style known as "national".
It is believed that the Chapel of Our Lady of Grace was built between the 16th and 17th centuries. This estimated period gives the building historical value, testifying to a relevant period in religious construction and the built heritage of the Idanha-a-Nova region.
Beyond its architectural and historical interest, the Chapel of Our Lady of Grace is known for being the central point of a pilgrimage that takes place annually. This tradition underscores the importance of the site for the community and for devotees, serving as a hub for gathering and celebrating faith, and keeping alive a significant cultural dimension.
